Aggressive Drivers Eyed As Summer Season Begins
BALTIMORE (AP) -- Maryland Transportation Authority Police say they are targeting aggressive drivers as the summer driving season begins.
This week's boost in enforcement is the first of four waves under the multistate Smooth Operator program. The program involves law-enforcement agencies in Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia and the District of Columbia.
In addition to increased enforcement, the program raises public awareness about aggressive driving.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration estimates that one-third of traffic crashes and two-thirds of deaths can be attributed to aggressive driving.
