Md. Brewery's Gonzo Labels Exhibited As Art

FREDERICK, Md. (AP) -- The Frederick Arts Council is exhibiting beer labels as art.

The show running through Aug. 28 at the downtown Cultural Arts Center showcases labels created for the local Flying Dog Brewery by gonzo painter Ralph Steadman.

Steadman's splattery style and depraved characters are often associated with the works of author Hunter S. Thompson. Steadman illustrated many of Thompson's books and Rolling Stone magazine articles.

Steadman has designed more than 15 Flying Dog labels.

Their association goes back to the company's Colorado roots.

The show also includes Steadman works from the personal collection of Flying Dog Chief Executive Jim Caruso.
