Paddlers Compete At Md. State Championships

MCHENRY, Md. (AP) --Canoeists and kayakers are competing in Maryland's first state paddling championships in McHenry.

The event Saturday afternoon is at the Adventure Sports Center International overlooking Deep Creek Lake.

Organizers say the slalom races will be held on the upper section of the center's whitewater course. The mountaintop sports center is preparing to host the International Canoe Federation's canoe slalom world championships in 2014.

Saturday's event is produced by the Bethesda Center of Excellence, a world-class training center on the Potomac River near Washington.
