Wardour Neighborhood In Anne Arundel Co. Hit Hard By Irene

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (WJZ)—Irene left a mess behind in Anne Arundel County.

Derek Valcourt is in Annapolis where some homes are heavily damaged.

In Anne Arundel County's Providence neighborhood, trees fell like dominos. Several narrowly missed slamming into houses. Other homes are not so lucky. A now uninhabitable house is nailed by two massive trees.

"The good Lord blessed me," said Thomas Johnson, homeowner.

Just around the corner, his house is unscathed. But the same can't be said for one of the cars parked in his driveway. Irene left him a lasting impression.

"I think it's one of the worst I've seen, and I'm a senior citizen," Johnson said.

Luckily, there was no one inside a Wardour home when a massive falling tree sliced right through the roof and into one of the bedrooms. Repairs there are going to take months.

Repairs to power lines are a top priority at BGE's regional command center in Anne Arundel County, where the lieutenant governor took a tour Tuesday and urged those without power to be patient.

"No one is sitting on their hands, so everyone is focused with laser-like precision on restoring power in Maryland," said Lt. Gov. Anthony Brown.

"I'm really sad," said Nancy Reams, Wardour resident.

Reams' double door garage is crushed under a massive fallen tulip poplar. In all, neighbors say some 40 trees fell in her Wardour, Annapolis neighborhood. It's damage she and many others there were not expecting.

"I did not think it was going to do that. I really didn't," Reams said.

Some neighbors are starting to get their power back, but many are still in the dark. It's not a surprise considering the number of power lines and downed trees prevalent in the area.
