NewPage Says Md. Mill Not Threatened By Money Woes

CUMBERLAND, Md. (AP) -- NewPage Corp. says a potential bankruptcy filing wouldn't affect operations of its paper mill in the western Maryland town of Luke.

A company spokesman told the Cumberland Times-News on Tuesday that the Luke mill is not for sale and will remain in operation even if the company declares bankruptcy.

The Miamisburg, Ohio-based company said in a Securities and Exchange Commission filing Aug. 15 that it might file for bankruptcy protection if it can't restructure its debts.

The Luke mill has 870 workers, making it one of the largest employers in Allegany County.
