Baltimore City Firefighters To Put On Thrill Show To Teach Fire Safety

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- The Baltimore Fire Department is always looking for ways to get its message about fire safety out to the public.

As Mike Schuh reports, they're now fighting fire with fire.

Suit up. It's going to get hot.  If you are firefighter for the city, it's what you signed up to do--running toward a fire when everyone else is running away.

On Saturday, Baltimore City Fire  is putting on a show at the Training Academy.  For a few hours, the city is inviting everyone to see what they do.

If you come you'll be close enough to feel the heat.

"You're going to show them flames, but you're going to leave them with a message: exactly how people can stay safe in their homes," said Chief Kevin Cartwright, Baltimore City Fire.

The demonstrations of strength and firefighting ability, combined with education, happened through the financial help of area lawyers.

"We realized the fire department thought the thrill show is able to get the message out to be aware of fire safety and fire prevention," said Louise Lock, President, Maryland Association for Justice.

"This is what we do. This is our livelihood," said Eugene Von Berger, city firefighter.

The thrill show will be held 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. Saturday at the Baltimore Fire Academy located at 6720 Pulaski Highway.
