Catering Firm Closing Walkersville Venue
WALKERSVILLE, Md. (AP) -- A banquet-and-catering company with seven facilities in the Baltimore-Washington region says it's closing its Frederick County venue.
The Frederick News-Post reports that Martin's Caterers Inc. will close its Walkersville location in June .
The newspaper reports that 50 employees will lose their jobs.
Company Chairman Martin Resnick says about 12 full-time workers will be moved to other locations.
The Walkersville venue is a hall leased from the town's volunteer fire company. Resnick says the building's size limits events to parties of 300 or less, which he says isn't cost-effective.
He says the location also lacks the ambience of Martin's larger and more opulent venues in Baltimore, Greenbelt, Hunt Valley, Upper Marlboro and Westminster.
Martin's employs more than 700 people statewide.
