BALTIMORE (WJZ) ― Experts say now is the time to install a programmable thermostat.

Mary Bubala reports the average household spends more than $2,200 a year on energy bills.

You can save — on average — $200 a year by using a programmable thermostat.

The key is saving money without sacrificing comfort.  Establish a program that automatically reduces heating or air conditioning in your home when you don’t need it as much.

Oh yes, when it comes to household frugal tips, programmables are right up there in the top echelon. Basically, if you keep your thermostat lower when going to bed or leaving the house you’re good to go. Programming at sleep times and work times saves money.
