United Way To Give $1.75M To Nonprofits

WASHINGTON (AP) -- The United Way of the National Capital Area says it plans to award about $1.75 million to nonprofit groups in the Washington area.

Officials say the money will go toward 250 groups. It was raised during the agency's annual workplace giving campaign.

Chief Executive Bill Hanbury says the amount generated is about the same as last year and reflects the commitment of area residents to their communities.

The United Way of the National Capital Area helps people in the District of Columbia, northern Virginia and Prince George's and Montgomery counties in Maryland.
