SALISBURY, Md. (AP) — A teacher and volleyball coach at a Delmarva high school is accused of having sex with a student on school grounds.

The Daily Times in Salisbury reports that Steven Mark Kiggins, 43, was charged Thursday with assault and sex offense. He was released on $50,000 bond Friday.

Kiggins is a teacher and head volleyball coach at Wicomico High School. He also coached girls’ tennis and indoor track. Local school officials say he has been removed from the classroom, but they called it a personnel matter and wouldn’t give further details.

The victim alleged she was between 16 and 17 when she and the coach had sex in a classroom about once a week.

The accusation comes after a previous volleyball coach at the same school pleaded guilty in 2007 to having sex with a 16-year-old player.
