HAGERSTOWN, Md. (AP) — The Washington County Sheriff’s office says a Hagerstown mall was closed temporarily after a crowd became unruly while waiting for a shoe store to open and begin selling Nike’s new Foamposite sneakers.

Authorities say about 15 officers went to the Valley Mall after receiving a report of a disturbance among about 100 people waiting for the store to open Saturday morning. The sheriff’s office says some shoppers told officers they had been waiting in line overnight and others began cutting in line.

Washington County Sheriff Douglas Mullendore told The Herald-Mail of Hagerstown that the release of the new shoe drew shoppers from as far away as Washington. The sheriff’s office says officers were told the store had 90 pairs in stock and they were sold out by 10 a.m.

My gracious they are just sneakers! Why do people have to figuratively lose their minds over them? I like sneakers and all, but not enough to cause a disturbance over them.

ALL of you people are really stupid to assume that it is black kids in Hagerstown arguing over sneakers. White, hispanic & asian kids ALL wear the same types of sneakers you morons. ALL of the kids dress the same. Welcome to the 21st century.

    1. Diane King says:

Oh no, we shouldn’t assume that it is the exact same crowd as those that have behaved this way every single other time the latest POS sneaker has come out.

    2. Jules says:

Not all kids dress the same, but the problem here is the way they act, and that is the glorification of bad behavior, a black American problem.

  3. Stupidity Rules says:

It is my understanding that people drove from as far as DC and Virginia to purchase these shoes. Probably some from Maryland and Pennsylvania too. It was not just locals. It is really unbelievable that people act this way for something as trivial as a pair of shoes.

The rioting occurred when the spear chuckers found out Foot Locker would not accept EBT cards.
