TOWSON, Md. (WJZ)– A random break-in leads to gunfire in the heart of Towson. Police say a man walked in on a burglary. Then, he was shot.

Adam May has more.

News of what happened inside the home in the 500-block of Allegheny Avenue spread quickly among neighbors.

“It’s like my worst nightmare, and we live right down the street,” Caroline Warner, the victim’s neighbor, said.

Police say at 1:30 a.m. Sunday, the man who lives in the house returned home to find a burglar already inside. The surprised crook then shot the homeowner and took off running.

Police found the suspect a few blocks away dressed in camouflage from head to toe.

“It’s pretty surprising to hear about something like that about 100 yards away from where we live,” Brad Price said.

The crime has those who live in this family-friendly neighborhood on heightened alert.

Many here already try to deter burglars.

“I’m crazy about it. I’m always making sure the windows are locked, the doors are locked. I’ll get up in the middle of the night just to make sure,” Warner explained.

“It’s shocking. I’ve lived here for a number of years. My father lived here for many years before,” Del Dressel said. “And to my knowledge this is the first time I’ve heard of a violent situation like this.”

The homeowner has been released from the hospital. The name of the suspect hasn’t been released.

Wait a minute! Wasnt the criminal supposed to have his gun locked up on one side of teh house and the ammunition on the other side of the house? If this was the case then how did the criminal manage to shoot the homeowner before the homeowner was able to defend his family?

Carnival, STFU, the intruder was just borrowing the man’s wife. Give him a break ok.

Where were Owe Malley’s Professional Police?? The Brady group told me that the police would protect everyone? Did They lie? What about Curran? He said we donot need to arm ourselves? The police will protect us? Did they lie again? Silly Democrats Always Lying.

the guy walked into a robbery at his home. would you have prefered he call the police BEFORE he walked in? Keep your nutbag opinions that aren’t really realte to the story at hand to yourself.

what a shame…..the criminal only has non-life threatening injuries.
this means tax payer dollars will be wasted at trial where he will not get considerable time for this property crime he committed. and watch the homeowner will have to dish out lawyer and court fees when this loser takes him to civil court. welcome to Maryland!

You got it backwards , the homeowner got shot. If it was the other way around I would give the homeowner a medal .

If MD allowed concealed carry as Georgia does the outcome could have been different.

    1. todd says:

because he would have been armed coming home from the bars at 130am…..

      1. Mark says:

Take a look at the stats for states that have concealed carry laws. Your fearful little view of the world doesn’t pan out in 36 states that have CC laws. Facts are facts, you should look at them. Major crime reductions in those states. Also, you don’t know if he was out drinking or not. That is just speculation, but what can I say? That is all cowardly little people like you can do. Sit around and make up stories to support your incorrect opinion. You can see it in your response. A normal person would be upset at the criminal. All you can do is attack people that want to defend themselves. I left MD many years ago and I hope to never live there again. Free state? Free to be a criminal.

Don’t recall reading that the victim was coming home “from bars at 1:30am” – is that true, or just an assumption ? It is a shame the victim didn’t have the legal right to defend himself, i.e., fire back. So much for Constitutional rights in Maryland !

NO the suspect should not rot in jail but to rot in a shallow ditch.
