Brush Fire Breaks Out In Montgomery County

GAITHERSBURG, Md. (AP) -- Montgomery County firefighters worked over the weekend to extinguish a brush fire that spread through several acres in Gaithersburg.

Authorities say the fire broke out Sunday afternoon and filled about two to three acres in the 20200-block of Watkins Mill Road. The area is near Watkins Mill High School and Great Seneca Stream Valley Park.

The blaze was mostly contained by about 5 p.m.

Fire departments have been on heightened alert for brush fires due to the recent dry weather and gusty winds that can quickly start and spread blazes.
