Md. Man Charged With Illegally Renovating Rowhome

BALTIMORE (AP) -- A man is facing criminal charges for renovating his mother's Baltimore rowhouse without the required permits.

The Baltimore Sun reports Martin Pozoulakis could receive jail time if convicted under a seldom-used law intended to punish people who do rehab work without a permit.

The city says that in this case, shoddy rehab work caused the home to be condemned and that work continued even though Pozoulakis had been issued a stop-work order.

The penalty can carry a 90-day jail term, but officials say they're aware of only one case in which someone wound up behind bars.

Pozoulakis told the Sun the chain of events was an "unfortunate thing" but declined to comment further. His lawyer called it a "private matter" between Pozoulakis and the city.
