WASHINGTON (AP) — The Washington Jewish Music Festival is opening for more than two weeks of performances in jazz, funk, hip-hop and indie pop music.

The ensemble Abraham Inc. opens the festival Thursday at the Music center at Strathmore in Bethesda, Md. The group’s sound is a mash-up of traditional Jewish music, funk and hip-hop.

One of the festival’s highlights will be the Israeli band Hadag Nahash performing May 10 at the Fillmore in Silver Spring.

It’s the first time the festival is holding performances at the restored Fillmore and at the downtown Washington nightclub Eden.

The festival runs May 3 to 21. It concludes with the silent film, “The Yellow Ticket,” with a special musical score
commissioned for the performance.
