A key plank in McClement’s 2009 campaign platform was construction of a downtown hotel and conference center. The city has identified several potential sites for it, but there’s been little public evidence of developer interest.

McClement also has worked to make Frederick a bigger bicycling town. The city was recently designated a bicycle-friendly community by the League of American Bicyclists. A high-wheel bicycle race is set for Aug. 18.
