Lt. Gov. Brown To Discuss Health Enterprise Zones

OXON HILL, Md. (AP) -- Lt. Gov. Anthony Brown will be holding a public forum on an initiative to try to improve health care in underserved areas.

The forum is being held Thursday evening in Oxon Hill. Prince George's County Executive Rushern Baker also is expected to attend.

The state budget includes $4 million to create a pilot program of two to four health enterprise zones in Maryland.

The goal of health enterprise zones is to enhance health services and reduce health disparities using incentives such as tax breaks for medical providers who work in the areas.

A series of public forums are being held throughout the summer. After the forums, there will be a report to the Maryland General Assembly.

Applications will be reviewed in the fall.
