Mark Zinno: Post MLB Trade Deadline Deals
The July 31st non-waiver baseball trade deadline has come and gone. The Orioles did not make a single move. No big splash or no minor addition to the ball club. Some may feel that they should have done something to win now. They haven't been this close to the playoffs in a forever and they need to make their move now while they have a chance! Well all is not lost Orioles fans. Deals can be made and WILL be made. And they will be value deals.
Already several veteran players have been designated for assignment and can be had on the cheap. There is nothing that will re-invigorate them more than going to a contender making a push for the playoffs. Dan Duquette still has to be a busy man in the next 30 days as they can still improve the ball club. If the Orioles are going to get a wild card sport, or -gasp- win the AL East, they will have to get some one to fill the holes on this team. Even when Jason Hammel returns to the rotation and Robert Andino goes back to 2nd base everyday, there are still improvements to be made.
It's not time for them to rest right now.
