Bartlett Hosts Conference On Federal Contracting

FREDERICK, Md. (AP) -- Rep. Roscoe Bartlett is courting votes from small business owners at a Frederick conference on federal contracting.

Friday's event comes 11 days before the Nov. 6 election pitting the 10-term Republican incumbent against Democrat John Delaney.

Bartlett routinely organizes such events.

This time, he's highlighting his efforts over the last 20 years to increase contracting opportunities for small businesses.

On Tuesday, Bartlett announced his co-sponsorship of a bipartisan request to the Army's medical research command at Fort Detrick to allocate 15 percent of military medical research funds to small businesses.

Bartlett says only about 2 percent of Army grants and contracts for applied medical research currently go to small businesses.
