Baltimore-Washington Parkway Reopens

LINTHICUM, Md. (AP) -- The Maryland State Highway Administration says the Baltimore-Washington Parkway is open again following bridge work.

The parkway reopened about 4:30 a.m. Sunday after crews using special hydraulic moving equipment placed a new 500-ton bridge over the roadway at West Nursery Road near Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport. The parkway was closed the night before while the old bridge was removed.

The $6 million construction project ran into trouble Oct. 20 when workers removed one bridge deck. The load apparently shifted on a piece of hauling equipment. Officials then had to close the busy parkway for the entire weekend.
