NC Central Beats Coppin State 84-75

DURHAM, N.C. (AP) -- Emanuel Chapman dished out 13 assists Saturday to help North Carolina Central remain unbeaten in Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference play with an 84-75 victory over Coppin State.

Ray Willis scored 20 points and Jeremy Ingram 19 for the Eagles of North Carolina Central (12-7, 5-0), who won their sixth straight. Jay Copeland added 17 points and Stanton Kidd had 15 points and nine rebounds.

Chapman, the conference's assists leader with 5.8 per game, posted the fifth-best total in program history while falling one short of his career best.

Andre Armstrong scored 28 points and Patrick Cole had 17 to pace Coppin State's Eagles (5-16, 2-4).

After Coppin State cut a 14-point deficit to 58-54 with 9:28 remaining, two layups by Copeland started an 11-3 North Carolina Central run that made it 69-57 with 5:21 left. Ingram also hit two baskets during the run.
