Naval Academy Showing Navy History In 100 Objects

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) -- The U.S. Naval Academy is featuring "A History of the Navy in 100 Objects."

The series debuted Monday with a podcast about John Paul Jones' crypt on the academy grounds and his contributions to the Navy. The podcast can be viewed on the academy's website www.usna.edu/100Objects.

The project is modeled after the BBC's "A History of the World in 100 Objects." Ensign Chris O'Keefe, who graduated last year, is producing the series.

A new podcast will be released twice weekly for 50 weeks. Future objects will include the Momsen Lung, a World War II submarine escape device, and a Pearl Harbor bomb arming vane.

Commentary is provided by Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Jonathan Greenert, Commandant of the Marine Corps James Amos, and former Deputy Secretary of Defense Paul Wolfowitz.
