Fort Detrick Closing 1 Of 4 Gates To Cut Costs
FREDERICK, Md. (AP) -- Employees at Fort Detrick in Frederick have one less gate by which to access the Army installation.
The Opossumtown Gate is closed starting Monday.
Spokeswoman Lanessa Hill tells The Frederick News-Post that the move could save up to $10,000 a week.
She says the change is not the result of the across-the-board federal budget cuts. She says it's because a hiring freeze at Fort Detrick has made it difficult to staff all four gates.
