Bike Boom Prompts Some To Finally Learn
WASHINGTON (AP) -- Bicycle advocates say the increasing popularity of traveling on two wheels is convincing more and more adults who never learned as a child to give it a try.
The Washington Area Bicyclist Association says it is holding 14 adult-only classes this spring and summer. And it may add more to meet demand. Matt Liddle, who runs the outdoors education program for mid-Atlantic REI stores told The Washington Post that as soon as the retail chain adds a class, it fills up.
For those worried they might be embarrassed by training wheels, fear not. Many adult classes use another method -- removing the pedals and allowing adult learners to push themselves around by foot until they can develop a sense of balance on two wheels.
