BGE Offering Air Conditioner Recycling Drop-Off

BALTIMORE (AP) -- Baltimore Gas and Electric says residents looking to get rid of old air conditioners can recycle them this weekend.

The utility says BGE residential customers can get a $25 reward from its BGE Smart Energy Savers program for their old working air conditioning units.

BGE says recycling old air conditions keeps them from being dumped in landfills where they can release greenhouse gases and harmful toxins. Older air conditioners also use about 10 percent more energy than newer, more energy efficient models.

Old air conditioners can be dropped off at Sears stores in the Hunt Valley Town Centre and the Eastpoint Mall from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday.
