Mysterious Illness At Pinewood Elementary Still Under Investigation

TIMONIUM, Md. (WJZ) -- Baltimore County Schools are still trying to determine what caused more than a dozen students to get sick at Pinewood Elementary Thursday.

They are looking into a circulator in the cafeteria that was not working properly. Repairs have been made to that circulator, but it is unknown if it caused the students to feel ill.

The students were inside the school cafeteria rehearsing for a musical Thursday afternoon when some of them started complaining that they felt lightheaded.

A hazmat team inspected the school.

"There was no odor, nothing environmentally concerning us," said Principal Franchesca Brown.

Of the 14 students who got sick, at least two were taken to area hospitals. However, because of their ages, no information has been released about their names or conditions. No information has been reported to suggest they had any life-threatening injuries.

The school reopened Friday.
