Girl, 6, Struck By Car In Crosswalk In Ocean City

OCEAN CITY, Md. (AP) -- Ocean City police say a 6-year-old girl was struck by a car while crossing a street in a crosswalk.

The incident occurred Saturday afternoon at the intersection of Baltimore Avenue and 19th Street.

Police say the girl was crossing the street with her mother when she was hit by a car driven by 18-year-old Jasmine Shuman of Salisbury. The girl was flown to Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, and police say her condition is stable.

Police say Shuman stopped after the collision but then left the scene. She was later stopped by an officer on foot. She's been charged with a variety of traffic offenses and has been released on bond.
