Montgomery County Executive Leggett Announces Bid For 3rd Term
ROCKVILLE, Md. (AP) -- Montgomery County Executive Isiah Leggett says he'll seek a third term.
Leggett announced online Tuesday that he is running for re-election. The Democrat is the county's first African-American county executive.
He'll face Councilman Phil Andrews and former County Executive Doug Duncan, who have both announced bids for the top post.
Leggett says the county has made progress despite economic challenges, but the momentum must continue.
He had originally said he wasn't inclined to run again because his wife wanted him to step down, but he says her sentiments have changed in recent months.
He says constituents have been enthusiastic about a third term.
