Steve Davis: Pitchers Need To Go Deeper
Zack Britton became the lastest Oriole pitcher to have a short outing. This is a problem for the Orioles.
Over that last 18 games, in which the Orioles are only 7-11, the O's starter has pitched deeper into the game than his counterpart on the other team just 4 times.
The opposing team is getting, on average, almost an inning more out of its starter than the Birds.
In the last 5 games alone, the Orioles starter has been outlasted all 5 times. In fact, only once has an Orioles starter even made it through the 6th inning. It is probably no coincidence that the Orioles are also 1-4 in those games.
The Orioles picked up Scott Feldman to help with this problem, but he didn't pitch well in his second game.
This is a disturbing trend that must change if the Orioles are to make a playoff run.
