Charm City Pedal Mill Is A Party On Wheels

BALTIMORE (WJZ) --  It weighs one ton, it's 17 feet long and you've probably seen it in Fells Point.

Ron Matz has more on a monster bicycle that takes "pedal power" to the max.

It's a party on wheels. The Charm City Pedal Mill is a 16-person bike, taking folks on a tour of bars and restaurants in Fells Point.

"We started our bike tours in August of 2011, so we're almost to our two-year anniversary. Its' going great. We're busy throughout the week and especially on the weekends," said Elizabeth Ross, co-owner of the Charm City Pedal Mill.

"We start all of our tours at Ale Mary's," she  continued. "We head out to Fells Point and also to Harbor East. The longer tours go to Harbor East."

"It is always an adventure. You never know what traffic is going to be like in Fells Point, but it's a lot of fun and we always have a great group and they're excited to be on the bike," Cary Haberman, driver of the Charm City Pedal Mill, said.

If you think riding the bike is easy, think again.

"It weighs a little over 2,000 pounds, so it does take all 16 people working and a great driver to get it going," Ross said.

"I  guess the biggest challenge is pulling into a  spot because you always forget how big the back of the bike is . Well, I don't forget. I have to remember," Haberman said.

The Charm City Pedal Mill has been on the streets for almost two years. As you might expect, it draws a lot of attention.

"I haven't heard anybody say they haven't had fun on this. If you live in Baltimore and you don't visit the Charm City Pedal Mill, you've missed an experience in Baltimore City," Kamal Harris, a passenger on the Charm City Pedal Mill, said.

You can rent the Pedal Mill for birthdays, bachelorette parties or just a night on the town.

"We do a lot of bachelor and bachelorette parties, a lot of birthday parties. We also do corporate events and a lot of team building activities . It's a great time out on the town," Ross said.

The Charm City Pedal Mill is available for rent by the hour. You can learn more about the bike here.
