Ex-Councilwoman Indicted On Theft, Perjury Charges

HAGERSTOWN, Md. (AP) -- A Washington County grand jury has indicted a formerly Hagerstown city councilwoman on theft and perjury charges for money allegedly taken from an estate.

The indictment against Kelly S. Cromer was filed in court on Tuesday. It alleges that Cromer, an attorney, stole thousands of dollars from the estate of a woman who died in 2011 and from two of her grandchildren.

Cromer was elected to the City Council in 2005, but failed to win her party's nomination for a second term in the March 2009 Democratic primary.

Cromer could not be reached by phone at her law office, The Herald-Mail of Hagerstown reports.
