TOWSON, Md. (AP) — Students in Maryland are joining with others nationwide to walk and bike to school.

AAA Mid-Atlantic says 62 events are scheduled for Wednesday in Maryland on Walk to School Day. Officials are encouraging drivers to pay extra attention and expect to see a greater number of children walking to and from school.

There are more than 3,000 walk and bike to school events registered nationwide. The first national walk to school day was held in 1997.
