Trooper Who Wrote Gansler Driving Memo Investigated

PIKESVILLE, Md. (AP) -- An attorney for a Maryland state trooper who documented allegations that Attorney General Douglas Gansler ordered troopers to drive recklessly says his client is under investigation in another matter.

Maryland State Police spokesman Greg Shipley tells The Washington Post that the agency is investigating whether several employees' moonlighting work was sanctioned. He declined to identify the troopers involved. He says the agency asked Virginia and District of Columbia authorities to investigate, too.

Attorney Michael Davey is representing Lt. Charles Ardolini, the commander of the executive protection section, and another trooper under investigation. Davey says his clients worked through a security company to become authorized as guards.

Davey says he is suspicious of the investigation's timing since the complaint that sparked it came days after the Gansler story broke.
