OAKLAND, Md. (AP) — A consultant is suggesting that three elementary schools in Garrett County be closed to cut costs.

The Cumberland Times-News reported Wednesday on a school consolidation study done by Facility Engineering Associates of Fairfax, Va.

A company representative says closing three of the county’s eight elementary schools is the most extreme option for reducing costs.  But he says even that option would not be enough to close a $2.2 million budget gap.

An architect says some of the remaining elementary schools would have to be modified to handle more students.
