Baltimore Catholic Churches Collecting To Aid Philippines
BALTIMORE (AP) -- Baltimore's archbishop is asking churches to hold a special collection at Masses to support relief efforts in the Philippines following Typhoon Haiyan.
The Archdiocese of Baltimore says the collections will take place this weekend. All the money that's raised will go to Catholic Relief Services, the church's international humanitarian agency.
Authorities estimate some 600,000 people have been displaced by the typhoon, which hit the islands of Samar and Leyte hardest. More than 3,500 people died as a result of the storm.
