UMBC Sneaks By UMES 64-59

BALTIMORE (AP) -- Quentin Jones made four free throws in the final seconds to give Maryland-Baltimore County a 64-59 victory over Maryland-Eastern Shore Monday night.

David Kadiri was 10 of 13 from the floor to lead UMBC (3-5) with 21 points. Jones had 13 points, with Malik Garner adding 11 and Rodney Elliott 10.

Both teams were cold from the field in the first period but UMES (2-4) managed a 28-24 lead at the half. The Retrievers got hot in the second period, making 69.6 percent of their shots, outscoring UMES 40-31.

UMBC led most of the game but could never put UMES away. Shane Randall made two free throws to tighten the score to 60-59 with 1:32 remaining in the game. The Hawks got a chance to take the lead but missed two layups and a free throw. That was when Jones made his free throws to seal the victory.
