Ravens' New National Anthem Singer Makes His Debut

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- He's got the voice and Ravens Nation got to hear it live. The new Ravens National Anthem singer performed in front of tens of thousands of fans during Monday's open practice.

Linh Bui has more on his big debut.

Joey Odoms says it's always been his dream to sing the National Anthem on a Ravens game day. Now that dream is coming true.

During Monday's open practice, it wasn't just the players warming up. With some 30,000 die-hard fans watching, Odoms made his Ravens' anthem debut.

The Baltimore native is excited and ready.

"I'm honored to be such a major part of the franchise's history," Odoms said.

He is the new National Anthem singer for the Ravens. A member of the Maryland Army National Guard, Odoms recently returned from Afghanistan. He actually met Coach John Harbaugh when he visited the base.

"He told me he was a National Anthem singer. I'm like, `Really?' You hear a lot of things and here he is, singing the National Anthem six months later. The Lord works in mysterious ways," Harbaugh said.

Odoms' audition impressed the judges and he beat out the other finalists.

"When I was singing for the judges a week or so ago, I was actually a little more nervous than I am now, so that's a good thing," he said. "When this place is packed, I'll be ready to go."

Odoms is the second national anthem singer in team history. He replaces Mishael Miller, who's moving to Alabama after 18 seasons with the Ravens.

Odoms is scheduled to sing at each home game during the 2014 season.
