HAGERSTOWN, Md. (AP) -- Maryland State Police are investigating the death of a Hagerstown man who was struck and killed by a car while walking on U.S. 40 west of the city.

Police say 32-year-old Robert Owen was hit shortly before 12:30 a.m. Thursday. They say he walked into the right turn lane of westbound U.S. 40 near the main entrance to the Centre at Hagerstown shopping center.

The retail complex is near the intersection of U.S. 40 and Interstate 81.

Police say the driver of the car, a 23-year-old Pennsylvania man, was treated for injuries and released.
