Plenty of Bargains To Go Around For House Of Ruth Benefit

TIMONIUM, Md. (WJZ)-- Whether it's jewelry or furniture, if you're looking for a bargain make sure you head to Timonium on Wednesday. It's an annual sidewalk sale that benefits the House of Ruth Maryland, which helps victims of intimate partner violence and their children.

Ron Matz has more on the Clearing House connection to helping others.

Bargain hunters are ready to go, on Wednesday the Clearing House holds its 23rd annual sidewalk sale.

Owner Lisa Hudson says the crowds will line-up early.

"We have a lot of great deals. We ask for cash and checks only. The sale starts at 10 a.m. and will be over by 3 p.m," Hudson said. "I would say come early to get the best deals and best selection."

"They're going to find furniture. They're going to find crystal, china, jewelry, household goods, lamps and all at yard sale prices," she said.

For the last ten years this sale has been a benefit for The House Of Ruth.

"After this year the sale will have raised over $100,000 for us in the past ten years, said Terri Wurmser, Director of Development for House of Ruth Maryland. "Last year the sale raised more than $12,000 that support programs and services that make it possible for us to be responsive when victims and children need our support and safety,"

"We went on a tour of the House of Ruth. It was great. It was so important to see where the funds we raise go. These women and kids need our assistance. The House of Ruth is doing an incredible job giving them the strength to move forward. We're just happy to be a part of it," said Cara Derr, the co-owner of Clearing House.

Talking about a great bargain-- an overstuffed chair is just $50.

"We are ready, be here early. We'll take cash and checks. We'll be under the tent and we're so excited to give back to the House of Ruth," Derr said.

Giving back in a big way.

"This is our 23rd year. The last ten years donations from the sale have gone to the House of Ruth Maryland. We're very happy to have a wonderful partnership with them. We know the proceeds from the sale will go to a great cause and support their services and programs," Hudson said.

"It's a great feeling to give back to the community. Knowing that the dollars raised will be so beneficial to women in the community who need these resources and programs. I'm very proud of our staff for being a part of the sale," she added.

The Clearing House is located on West Padonia Road. Wednesday's sidewalk sale begins at 10 a.m., but you're advised to get there early for the best bargains.
