Upshaw Fined $16k For Roethlisberger Hit

Baltimore Ravens outside linebacker Courtney Upshaw was fined by the National Football League $16,000 for his hit on Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger during the second play of the Prime Time, Thursday Night Football matchup. Officials mistakenly announced a 15-yard penalty during the game for "Roughing the Passer" which was meant to be an "Unnecessary Roughness" call.

Upshaw plans to appeal this decision by the league. Upshaw told Ravens Insider, Aaron Wilson of The Baltimore Sun:

-
Fans and even teammates of Upshaw disagree with the League on the penalty and fine.

Fans are calling this the best hit on Roethlisberger since Bart Scott in 2006. The main difference is that Scott's hit didn't draw a 15-yard penalty. Roethlisberger told 93.7 The Fan in Pittsburgh, "I'm hurting today as much as I was at any point I can think of in the last year."
