Boy's Death 6 Years After Abuse Ruled A Homicide

BALTIMORE (AP) -- Baltimore police say the death of a boy six years after abuse he suffered has been ruled a homicide.

Lt. Sarah E. Connolly said in an email Monday that the death of 10-year-old Damaud Martin on July 2 was ruled a homicide last month.

Documents show Damaud died after suffering cardiac arrest at a home run by LifeLine Inc. in Laurel. Anne Arundel County police began investigating Damaud's death, but contacted Baltimore police after determining that there had been earlier abuse in that city.

In January 2008, Damaud was hospitalized with severe brain trauma. Damaud's mother, Tamekia Martin, was convicted of child abuse in 2009 after accepting an Alford plea.

Connolly says no new charges have been filed as a result of the homicide ruling, but an investigation is ongoing.
