Local Veterans Honored A Day Early
BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- Even though Tuesday is Veterans Day, a group of local veterans were singled out for honors Monday.
Alex DeMetrick reports they traded in a national call to duty for service in Maryland.
The uniform belongs to Maryland State Police but the ceremony at Camp Meade honors those who have worn different uniforms.
"Everyone here served in the Armed Forces and for myself, I served in the United States Marine Corps from 1980 to 1994," said Lt. Sean Jackson, Maryland State police.
One hundred and sixty-five current and former troopers and civilian staffers were honored for their military service by representatives of the different branches and the state police superintendent.
"These men and women have been willing to service the country and now they're serving the state," said Maryland State Police Superintendent Col. Marcus Brawn.
On hand were family who knew best what that service took.
"They just deserve a lot of honor for all the sacrifices they make and have made," said Ashley Anderson.
"We've always tried to support our troops and I'm very delighted and happy to see him get this honor today," said Paula Bell.
So did a lot of others.
This is the second year the ceremony was held. The first honored those who served after 9/11. Monday, it was for veterans from World War II to the present.
