Ex-Corrections Officer Pleads Guilty To Bribery

WASHINGTON (AP) -- A former corrections officer has pleaded guilty to accepting money to smuggle contraband into a D.C. jail.

Thirty-four-year-old Lenard Fleming of District Heights, Maryland, entered the plea Thursday in federal court in Washington. Fleming faces 24 to 37 months at sentencing Feb. 12.

According to government evidence, Fleming had worked for the Corrections Corporation of America as a corrections officer at the Correctional Treatment Facility. CCA has a contract to provide services to the D.C. Jail.

Prosecutors say while working for the company, Fleming met with an undercover FBI agent and agreed to smuggle a cellphone and cigarettes to an inmate in exchange for $750.
