Victim Shot After Stopping To Help Man Who Struck A Deer

FRUITLAND, Md. (WJZ) -- A shooting on the Eastern Shore is under investigation.

It happened near the intersection of Whitesburg Road and Five Bridges Road in Fruitland, Worcester County.

Police say the victim and two other witnesses stopped to help someone who struck a deer with their vehicle.

An argument started between them. Police say 18-year-old Kenny White then began firing a shotgun at the victim in the roadway. Pellets struck him twice below the torso.

The victim was able to get back in his vehicle and a get a partial license plate number. He returned to his home in Eden and called 911.

After obtaining a search warrant, detectives recovered a shotgun and shotgun shells from White's home matching shells found at the scene.

White is charged with attempted murder, first-degree assault and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.
