Columbia's Irish Dance Company Set To Take The Stage

COLUMBIA, Md. (WJZ)--They're one of the premiere Irish dance groups in the nation and they're from Columbia, Howard County.

Ron Matz has more on some amazing dancers getting ready for a big performance Saturday night.

The Teelin Irish Dance Company is precision personified. Director Maureen Gately says Irish dance and promoting Irish culture is her passion.

"I started the company about 15 years ago with about eight girls. It's grown into a huge theater show that has a cast of 50. We have musicians from New York and Washington--most of our dancers are from Howard County," Maureen Gately, Director Teelin Irish Dance Company.

You can see these amazing dancers in performance tomorrow night in Frederick.

"I love performing. I've been performing since it was little. I love being with the Teelin Irish Dance Company because Maureen 's choreography is just so incredible," said one dancer.

And it takes an incredible amount of hard work to make it happen.

"It is a lot of effort and a lot of hard work, but it's so much fun with lots of great friends and a lot of good memories. I really enjoy it," another dancer said.

"Getting ready for a dance performance like this is difficult because it involves so many people. We do rehearse as a group several times a week and the dancers also practice outside of that," said Gately.

"It's so much fun. You have to put in a lot of work, but when you're on stage it all pays off," said one of Gately's dancers.

Wowing audiences everywhere.

"It gives me the greatest feeling being on stage--even in practice I can't explain it, I love it."

Saturday's performance begins at 7:00 p.m. at the Weinberg Center for the Arts in Frederick.
