WEATHER BLOG:Warm Springtime Teaser

Yes, we're still spreading the word that most temperatures will peak in the 60s and low 70s today. We'll get our "Warm Springtime Teaser" this afternoon before a progressively cooler pattern (actually, you can just call it "colder" by the start of this weekend) starts to unfold across the eastern third of the nation.

As you might expect, as the next cold front pushes across the area later and what will have been the warmest day of the month will come to an abrupt end. Also, the word "thunder" is appearing in our forecast dialogue for the first time this season. While we're NOT CONCERNED there will be any strong or severe thunderstorms in the Northeast or across the mid-Atlantic states, whatever remains of a line of potent thunderstorms across the Tennessee Valley and the Carolinas this afternoon should be gathered up by this front and pushed out to sea after midnight.

Therefore, we want to emphasize that while today is off to a 'dull and dreary start' with a bit of rain, fog and drizzle -- and the day could 'end on a soggy note' in many places, there will be enough of a break in the action this afternoon to allow the temperature to 'spike' in the 70s, albeit briefly.

Friday will be a breezy and noticeably cooler day with any clouds breaking for some sunshine. Then, as we mentioned earlier, Saturday will be even colder -- and most temperatures will be no higher than the low or mid 40s. In fact, we notice that there are some differences Saturday between the solutions of the G.F.S. and the European models – and it all has to do with what could occur beneath a pool of some very cold air aloft. The G.F.S. insists that there'll be a few showers in southeastern New York, northern New Jersey and in New England on Saturday -- and wet snow can't be ruled out. But, the European isn't really buying that idea. Regardless of how that works out, the weekend will be colder, and the air mass will only be modified slightly on Sunday.
