Statewide Horse Chase Scavenger Hunt Kicks Off In Md.

FINKSBURG, Md. (WJZ) -- If you've ever wanted to know more about horses, you now have a chance. The state is launching a network of horse discovery centers that will welcome people of all ages.

Ron Matz has more on the joy of horses in Maryland.

Welcome to the rolling hills of Full Moon Farm. It's the start of the Maryland Horse Chase kickoff, a fun scavenger hunt where you can win prizes and learn all about horses.

"They can learn and take part of different types of events and the contests that are going to be held over the course of the next three weeks and it's going to be a great time," Joe Bartenfelder with the Maryland Secretary of Agriculture said.

From grooming to riding horses big and small, the kids will love it and it will be happening at horse discovery centers throughout Maryland.

"I think it's so valuable that other people who haven't had the opportunity to ride  and be involved with horses before can ride here and get involved with horses," Grace Fulton with Full Moon Farm said.

Madison Iager, Maryland High School's Rodeo Queen, has been riding horses like Princess Peaches since she was two years old.

"It's an adrenaline rush. It's, oh my gosh, it's amazing. I really can't explain it. I have such a blast doing it and this girl, she's got a big heart. She really gives it her all for me every time," Iager said.

Thirty-five horse discovery centers including Full Moon Farm will open in the next few weeks.

"Some people want to ride. Some people just want to touch a horse. Some people just want to learn so it'll be different for everybody,"Jim Steele with the Maryland Horse Industry Board said.

The Maryland Horse Chase scavenger hunt runs through April 26.
