Suburban Police Seek $1M Repayment For Baltimore Riot Help
ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) -- Police departments in central Maryland and the Washington area are seeking reimbursements for helping Baltimore police during the city's April riots.
WRC-TV reports suburban police departments have submitted expense reports for incurring more than $1 million in overtime costs by sending officers to Baltimore.
According to reimbursement forms submitted to the Maryland Emergency Management Agency, Anne Arundel County has requested nearly $450,000 from Baltimore to offset overtime costs and regular pay for officers. Howard County is seeking nearly $294,000 in reimbursements for overtime pay. Montgomery County is seeking $291,000. Frederick County requested $49,000, and Frederick city requested about $40,000.
Baltimore city officials say they will have to tap into a rainy day fund to pay the costs. But there's no immediate plan for how to replenish the reserve fund.
