Mark Viviano Weighs In On Orioles Trades

Mark Viviano with WJZ 13 joined the Scott Garceau Show with Jeremy Conn to talk about the Orioles trade deadline roster moves.

The Orioles have been lacking a true leadoff hitter as well as an offensively productive corner outfielder. Mark was asked if he thinks Gerardo Parra fills those needs, "He does and its been long overdue. The day they came out of spring training the big questions were left and right field and its July 31st and that's just now being addressed. Despite their best efforts, they're attempts to fill it otherwise have been complete failures. Parra is certainly an upgrade."

With the deadline minutes away the Orioles agreed to a trade sending Tommy Hunter to the Chicago Cubs in return for outfielder Junior Lake. Mark analyzes the roster move,  "Hunter was not hurting this ball club and you're not replacing him with anyone better so that one is a curiosity to me." Mark went on to say that this move could possibly just be a move for the future, "they're doing two things at once here; they're trying to win at the moment and they're also considering what they're going to have next year and Tommy Hunter is not going to be a part of it so if we can get something for him now, we'll do that. Is Junior Lake going to be a part of it? I don't know. It is kind of a head scratcher for me before I hear the full explanation."
