Bullet Grazes 93-Year-Old Woman In Fatal W. Baltimore Triple Shooting

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- Fast acting police capture a suspect minutes after a fatal triple shooting in West Baltimore. One of the victims hit was a 93-year-old woman.

Christie Ileto speaks to the elderly victim.

Police say Clara Canty was caught in the crossfire of gun violence that literally happened steps from her front door.

Clara Canty, 93, was in need of stitches after a bullet grazed her skull.

"Shots started flying, and I tried to get up," she recalled.

Police say 24-year-old Spence Jeffers sprayed Canty's neighborhood block with bullets in broad daylight, hitting her and a 17-year-old and killing a 23-year-old man who they say was the intended target.

"We're thankful that 93-year-old wasn't more seriously injured, and we're thankful that our officers were on scene to get this man off the street," said Lt. T.J. Smith, Baltimore Police Department.

Police say plain clothed officers were responding to a separate call in the area when they saw two suspects running after a flurry of gunshots.

Family members show WJZ the scars from the city's latest shooting that has officers now beefing up patrol in the area.

"I tell you what, I'm not going to sit out here like I usually sit out here," said Canty.

Measures that aren't enough reassurance for 93-year-old Clara Canty.

Jeffers is facing charges that include first-degree murder.
